Throughout the Pacific Northwest, a passionate group of young advocates is fighting to save wild salmon by advocating for the removal of the four lower Snake River dams. This summer, we’re looking for students to join us as Student Coordinators, leading a chapter of Youth Salmon Protectors at their school or university.
As a Student Coordinator, you’ll organize and mobilize students on environmental issues, focusing on the restoration of the lower Snake River to save wild salmon, steelhead, and orcas. This role involves planning and leading events like direct actions, school presentations, club meetings, community education events, and legislative meetings. Your work with Youth Salmon Protectors will not only raise awareness but also drive real change for your environment and for Northwest Tribes.
Becoming a Student Coordinator means you’ll join a dedicated coalition working toward a more sustainable future. You’ll oversee your school’s Youth Salmon Protectors members, building a community and fostering collaboration. You’ll also receive our Advocacy Starter Kit, complete with an exclusive Student Coordinator tote bag, YSP T-shirt, stickers, pamphlets, postcards, and other fun goodies to support your advocacy efforts!
By organizing at the grassroots level, you’ll contribute to a larger movement dedicated to saving wild salmon and preserving the environment for future generations. Your leadership will bring fresh perspectives and amplify youth voices in the fight for climate justice. This experience will also be a great addition to your resume or college application, displaying drive and leadership skills developed throughout your time as a Student Coordinator.
Beyond community education and grassroots advocacy, you’ll have the opportunity to speak directly to those elected to represent you. You’ll join generations of Snake River advocates, and stand alongside other young people who are determined to prevent the extinction of these keystone species. Through meetings with legislators and decision-makers, you’ll inform them about the importance of salmon restoration and the urgent need to breach the dams.
By becoming a Student Coordinator, you’ll join a movement of hundreds of young people across the Pacific Northwest, all working toward a future where wild salmon thrive, ecosystems flourish, and Indigenous heritage is preserved. You will be able to make yourself heard, and ensure youth have a spot at the table where decisions that impact us are being made.
