Idaho Conservation League brings back Artist in Residence Program, is seeking applications
IDAHO – The Idaho Conservation League is excited to announce the return of its Artist in Residence program, and is encouraging artists from across the state to apply this spring.
From 2013 to 2020, the Idaho Conservation League (ICL) invited one artist annually to join in celebrating Idaho’s natural beauty—and the advocacy that’s done to protect it—through ICL’s Artist in Residence program. Combining forces with multiple talented artists over the years to explore the nexus of art and nature, this program has been enjoyed by conservation and fine art enthusiasts alike.
After a few years’ hiatus, ICL will bring the program back in the spring of 2024. As opposed to prior years, ICL has condensed and simplified the required application materials so that all levels of artists, from household names to up-and-comers, can easily apply. It is with excitement for the beauty of wild Idaho that ICL asks all interested artists to submit applications with their preferred visual art medium between March 15 and March 31st, 2024.
The aim of ICL’s Artist in Residence Program is to foster wider public awareness of the work of both ICL and the artist through a creative and engaging partnership. During the residency year, which begins and concludes annually in May, the artist is expected to complete a body of work to be exhibited at ICL’s annual Wild Idaho! conference. The materials created will also be available for ICL’s use in digital and print materials.
The artist will benefit by ICL’s promotion of their work through print, web, social media, and other means. There is a modest stipend that will help the artist cover some costs of the expected work as well as potential travel needs. In addition, the artist is offered a 3-day winter retreat at White Clouds Preserve through the residency program. This is not a physical residency and is open to artists throughout the state of Idaho.
TO APPLY
Applications will open March 15th, 2024. Applying artists should send in 5 examples of past work that best demonstrate their relationship to Idaho’s environment (if images, approximately 10 x 14 inches at 72 dpi in JPEG format) and responses to this Google Form, which can also be found at www.idahoconservation.org/artist-in-residence-program/. Applications are due by March 31st, 2024.
A selection committee will review the applications and choose an artist with whom to work. Selection will be based on artists’ work quality, artistic relevance to ICL’s work, and commitment to Idaho’s environment. Artists will be notified of acceptance, or otherwise, by May 1st, 2024.
Please submit applications to Lexi Black ([email protected]), Central Idaho Community Engagement Specialist, via this Google Form.
