“The Salmon Way: An Alaska State of Mind” with Amy Gulick – Boise, ID

March 13 at 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Intrigued that there is still a place in the world where the lives of people and wild salmon are
inextricably linked, writer and photographer Amy Gulick ventured to Alaska to explore the web
of human relationships that revolve around these extraordinary fish. Commercial fishermen
took her on as crew; Alaska Native families taught her the art of preserving fish and culture; and
sport fishing guides showed her where to cast her line as well as her mind. Alaskans
everywhere shared their salmon riches with her in their kitchens, cabins, and fish camps—it’s
the salmon way.

Join Amy as she shares engaging stories and stunning images from her award-winning book,
The Salmon Way: An Alaska State of Mind. She’ll also talk about the exciting opportunity in the
Pacific Northwest to restore salmon and ways of life in the Snake River of the Columbia Basin.

Amy Gulick is an award-winning nature photographer and writer, a Fellow with the
International League of Conservation Photographers, and a Fellow with The Safina Center. Her
images and stories have been featured in Outdoor Photographer, National Wildlife,
Audubon and other publications. She is the recipient of the Daniel Housberg Wilderness Image
Award from the Alaska Conservation Foundation, the Voice of the Wild Award from the Alaska
Wilderness League, and a Lowell Thomas Award from the Society of American Travel Writers
Foundation.

Her book, The Salmon Way: An Alaska State of Mind, celebrates the relationships among
salmon and people in Alaska, and is the recipient of an Independent Publisher Book Award, a
Nautilus Book Award, an INDIES Book of the Year Award, and has been named a Best Indie Book
by Kirkus Reviews. Her book, Salmon in the Trees: Life in Alaska’s Tongass Rain Forest, is the
recipient of an Independent Publisher Book Award and two Nautilus Book Awards.
