HB 404: Safeguarding wildlife records — 2024
Summary: House Bill 404 would exempt certain wildlife records from public records law.
ICL's position: Support
Current Bill Status: Law
Issue Areas: Public Records, Wildlife
Rep. James Petzke (R-Meridian) introduced House Bill 404 in the House Natural Resources Committee. The bill is intended to safeguard wildlife records that show the exact locations and travel habits of wildlife. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous hunters have used this scientific data to target certain game species (i.e. bighorn sheep). The practice runs counter to fair-chase rules associated with hunting and fishing.
